If this isn’t enough, there is also evidence that supports using gelatin to help:Īt bottom, gelatin appears to be highly anti-inflammatory as well as calming to the nervous system. Gelatin also reduces inflammation in the digestive tract, and supports normalized levels of gastric acids to help with proper digestion of other proteins. As a result, it’s been used to naturally and safely reduce symptoms of anxiety. Gelatin has a calming affect on the neural system, thanks to the action of several of the amino acids it contains. Gelatin appears to benefit our joints both by replenishing the very elements from which healthy joints are made, as well as by reducing pain and inflammation that are characteristic of joint diseases such as arthritis. Glycine (the main amino acid in gelatin) has proven to be effective in helping people improve their sleep quality, particularly if they wake up frequently during the night. There’s extensive scientific research backing the use of gelatin (or one the amino acids that make it up) with: It’s not just my personal experience that vouches for gelatin. This probably had to do both with the improved sleep as well as the direct action of the gelatin. As a result, I soon started feeling more awake and energetic during the day.Īlso, a number of joint pains (knees, lower back) and skin problems (swollen and itchy eyelids) disappeared. No more mid-night bathroom trips, no more early-morning tossing and turning. Within a few days of starting to eat gelatin, I could suddenly sleep through the night. I started off by telling you gelatin improved my sleep. And it’s these amino acids that provide the remarkable therapeutic benefits of gelatin. In fact, gelatin is made up of some unique amino acids (such as glycine, alanine, and proline) that are hardly present in muscle meat or milk. You can’t just swap them around and expect the same effect on your body. You see, the same way that there are huge differences between fats (for example, between canola oil and butter), there are huge differences between proteins (for example, muscle meat and gelatin). Today, we’ve almost entirely given up on those exotic foods in favor of eating boneless, skinless muscle meat. This came in the form of bone broths, cartilaginous cuts of meat, fried animal skin, and various other animal bits that made up the nose-to-tail eating approach. In traditional diets, gelatin/collagen made up a good portion of the protein we would eat. Collagen makes up 25%-30% of the total protein in our bodies, but it is mostly found in cartilage, bones, and skin, and is only present in small amounts in muscle. Gelatin is basically the cooked version of collagen, the most common protein found in animal tissue. It turns out that gelatin - the stuff that makes up jello and gummy bears - contains some surprisingly important nutrients that our bodies probably aren’t getting otherwise.īut perhaps you’re saying “Gummy bears? Is this really what my body needs?” Let me first give you a bit of background. It looked pretty hopeless - until I started eating gelatin… How gelatin helped my sleep and joints… Some of these helped a bit, but most had no effect whatsoever. I tried many things over the years to improve my sleep. As you can imagine, I was chronically tired and my overall health wasn’t very good. I was sleeping badly, though I was spending enough time in bed. Usually, I’d have to get up, go to the bathroom, maybe have a sip of water, and then, after a while, I’d be able to doze off again.īut even once I got back to sleep, I’d keep tossing and turning until it was time to get up for good. There was nothing wrong, and yet I’d woken up and I couldn’t go back to sleep.įor years, I woke up like this every night. The clock said it was 2:30 am - almost exactly four hours from the time I’d gone to bed. It’s not just good for joints, it’s also good for sleep, skin, nails as well as treating a number of chronic, often mysterious health issues.

While health, resolve, fatigue and initiative should meet reasonable levels as they will be semi-front-liners and relief guys but the thing is - they are not very demanding on any of those, so any decent recruit can be in that position and you don't have to waste your stars with such trivial tasks while having a well rounded composition. Their most needed stats are melee attack and melee defense. They are in the front, usually 2 places away from the flank, this way they can reach basically everywhere without the need of changing position or at most just one.īackgrounds which are good for that are Farmhands, Lumberjacks and Thieves in the early stages and nearly any expensive background including Adventurous Noble, as they can equip Kite Shield. I have far more games already available, unplayed, than I will ever play, and more coming in every week and month, so why pay to add to the pile unless it’s something i am literally going to start playing the moment it finishes downloading?Īs for the sale itself, I swear I get more emails about titles on my wishlist being discounted outside of the sales than during it. That happens rarely because there are way to many free options these days. The thing is, even now, if there’s a game I *really* want to play I’ll buy it full price at the time I want to play it. At a certain point my bargain reflex kicks in and I feel I’d be making a mistake to pass an offer up but it has to be a really good offer for that. It seems that I need a discount well under 50% to make me buy something off my wishlist. I can’t spend the whole time doing Argent Tournament dailies. If nothing else, thanks to the US Independence Day holiday falling on Tuesday this year, I have a four day weekend coming up. It has to be the right game and I have to be in the right mood, the stars have to align, the moon must be full, and the price has to be right. Once in a while something new pops up… I was on the Valheim bandwagon on day one… but that is a pretty rare event. I tend to stick with the same old selections until I have worn them out. The problem is, will I even play a new title? Anybody having visited this blog more than a few times probably has the correct impression that I don’t play a lot of new titles. (Where you have to buy all the DLC anyway.) And Forza Horizon 5 is 50% off for all editions… I think they have released all the DLC for it at this point… and I would rather have it on Steam than on the Microsoft GamePass subscription. Will I buy it for a mere $2.49? Darkest Dungeon, which I never quite got around to buying, is 70% off. I mean Ogre, which has been on my wishlist for a while, is 90% off. There are stickers to collect, points to earn, backgrounds to buy, and all of that sort of thing, which is covered in the announcement.īut it is the promise of a deal, a discount, the discovery of whether or not a break in the price is really the deciding factor on whether or not something moves from your wishlist into your inventory over the next two weeks. There are other aspects to the event, things besides the sale. (He said, even as preparing a six month update post on 2023.) And the summer sale always feels like the younger sibling of the winter sale, where we get year end numbers and the Steam Awards and all of that. I have opined in the past how the excitement of a mere sale has worn off over the years as it went from being a unique event to a standard routine. But it was in 1958 that Lituya Bay’s unpredictable waters reared up in truly apocalyptic fashion. In 1899, an earthquake triggered a giant wave that destroyed a native village and drowned 5 people on the island. The name turned out to be all too fitting. It was in their honor that the lone island in the bay was given the name Cenotaph, a Greek word meaning “empty tomb.” Twenty-six men lost their lives, their remains never to be found. Despite the weather being calm, two of the three boats capsized after being drawn into roiling tidal currents that had been amplified by the fjord’s narrow shape. Another came when he dispatched three small boats to measure the depth of the water near the entrance of the bay. It was the first clue that the seemingly placid, protected waters of the bay had a more destructive side. It was as though the forests “had been cut cleanly with a razor blade,” he noted in his log. For questions, please contact the Hebgen Lake Ranger District at 1-40.When he first encountered Lituya Bay in 1786, the French explorer Jean-François de Galaup La Pérouse was intrigued by an odd line in the forests that surrounded the narrow fjord in southeastern Alaska.
